Try planting Strawberries and Tomatoes with some mixed vegetable varieties and/or herbs for a great patio garden using the 35.5cm (14") Basket or 51cm (20") Box Planter.
Step 1Select your seedlings (see above for seedling suggestions) and premium potting mix to proceed with planting.
It is recommended you use gloves when handling potting mix.
For this demonstration we used an 28cm (11") hanging basket.
So you can appreciate the size of these hanging baskets we have placed an Australian 50 cent piece beside the basket.
Step 2Pre-moisten enough PREMIUM POTTING MIX, not potting soil, to fill the container to within 4-6cm from the top. This allows for a good watering pool.
Step 3Fill the container with moist potting mix to the bottom of the bottom row of opening
Step 4Insert your desired plants root ball first into the openings laying the root balls on the potting mix with 1cm of stem inside the container. If you are using plants with a root ball larger than 4cm then gently push the foliage through the opening from the inside of the container
Step 5Add more moist potting mix to the bottom of the second row of openings and repeat step 5, patting down the potting mix and adding more if needed to reach the desired level. Repeat the process until all side openings are planted
Step 6All side openings should now be planted.
NOTE: If you are a wholesale grower or growing for retail, depending on habit of the stock you use, it is not necessary to plant every opening, the potting mix will not wash out of unplanted openings. Plant to your own price point.
Step 7Add more moist potting mix to within 4 cm from the top of the container.
Step 8Plants in the top should be no more than 5-6cm apart.
Step 9Water deeply until water drips from the drain holes in the bottom of the container to assure even hydration to all plants in the bottom rows.
